The Government College Chavara was established on 26th August1981 meeting the long cherished dream of the natives of Chavara and its surrounding regions.  It is located at Sankaramangalam around 14 Kms North of Kollam City, on the side of National Highway 47.  It is the only Govt. College for all the three contiguous districts of Kollam, Alappuzha and Pathanamthitta. A team of socially dedicated personalities had strived hard to make this dream a reality.  The prominent among them was former Kerala Minister Shri. Baby John.  The aim of starting this college was to uplift the younger generation from their social and educational backwardness who otherwise would have been forced to eke out a living by fishing and the traditional coir industry.  Our college has been striving to strengthen the objective of facilitating higher education for the meritorious and the talented to ensure social justice through higher standards of performance.
